Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, said Tuesday that he doesn't believe President Obama's deal to release Sgt. Bowe Berghdal will have any effect on the midterm elections.
"There are still months to go before this election and I think people are focused on the issues, for example, of educating their children, putting people back to work, the VA," he said on MSNBC. "I think people are going to make judgements on individuals based on their records, what they've done."
He also said following a classified briefing for members of Congress that lawmakers want more facts on the Berghdal release, especially on why the president went ahead with the release of Gitmo detainees without letting Congress know.
"I think the administration made a mistake by failing to consult Congress," he said.
