OREGON, Ill. (AP) - Sheriff’s officers in Ogle County say they searched, but didn’t find a black bear reported in the area.

Sheriff Michael Harn tells The Telegraph in Dixon (https://bit.ly/1s5kTdD ) on Tuesday that his office “checked the area and found nothing.” The search comes after several bear sightings in northern Illinois over the last week. Harn says a woman reported seeing a bear Monday evening near state Route 64.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Rockford-area home on Saturday after a resident reported spotting a bear eating berries outside. Roscoe police spotted a bear on Sunday morning and Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials say they’ve had bear sightings in Freeport and Stockton recently.

The Ogle County sheriff says his office hasn’t had any other sightings.
