ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities are searching for a 19-year-old man who escaped police custody while being treated in an emergency room.

The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/1xO4YRo) a handcuffed Nazim Amett Polanco escaped Wednesday from West Anaheim Medical Center, several hours after he had been arrested on suspicion of felony drug possession and theft.

Buena Park police say officers brought Polanco to the hospital after he complained of suffering an injury. Authorities did not specify what injury he suffered, or how it occurred.

Police say Polanco ran out of the ER and was last seen on Beach Boulevard.

A police helicopter helped in the search but officers were unable to locate him.

Authorities do not believe that Polanco is armed.
