SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - Lockheed Martin has landed a $35.7 million contract with the Pentagon to produce mobile, ground-based radar.

The units are designed to operate with such weapons defense systems as HAWK and Patriot missiles. The radar can detect and track missiles and planes from up to 400 miles away.

The Pentagon says most of the work will be done at Lockheed Martin’s Electronics Park campus in the Syracuse suburb of Salina. Additional work on the contract will be done at Lockheed Martin plants in Oldsmar, Florida, and Moorestown, New Jersey.

The U.S. Army contract is at least the sixth awarded to the Salina plant since Lockheed Martin restructured in November.

Completion of the project is slated for July 2017.
