WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) - Former Weirton Mayor Mark Harris has agreed to pay more than $16,000 to the city in exchange for the dismissal of criminal charges against him and his wife.

The Weirton Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1hr6bcp) reports that the agreement has been filed in Hancock County Circuit Court. It must be approved by a judge.

Harris is accused of embezzling money donated for a skate park in 2009. He was indicted in September 2013 on embezzlement and conspiracy charges. His wife, Nycole, was charged with conspiracy.

Harris’ lawyer, William Galloway, tells the newspaper that the Harrises maintain their innocence.

Harris served as mayor from 2007 to 2011 and didn’t seek re-election.
