BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say vandals with spray paint are targeting churches around the Birmingham area with unusual graffiti.

Jefferson County sheriff’s officials say multiple churches in the county plus the cities of Birmingham, Hueytown and Pleasant Grove were spray painted late Thursday or early Friday.

Al.com (http://bit.ly/1igR0mx ) reports that the same unusual, 10-letter word was scrawled on the targets in purple paint.

Investigators aren’t sure what the word means or how to pronounce it.

Churches were painted on walls, doors and paved areas outside buildings.
