- The Washington Times - Sunday, June 22, 2014

The Washington Capitals will open the 2014-15 season against the Montreal Canadiens at Verizon Center on Oct. 9.

That game opens a slate highlighted by the New Year’s Day date with the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Winter Classic. The venue for that game is still to be announced, but most expect it to be held at Nationals Park.

Other highlights on the home schedule include a pair of visits from the Detroit Red Wings (Oct. 29 and Jan. 10), a Super Bowl Sunday game against the St. Louis Blues (Feb. 1) followed two days later by a visit from the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings (Feb. 3) and the regular-season finale April 11 against the New York Rangers.
