GILETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Gillette’s new skate park has opened to an appreciative crowd of about 100.

The Gillette News-Record reports (http://tinyurl.com/ptcljpf ) the park officially opened at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The new park is next to the county public health building and about a block from the jail, prompting 22-year-old skateboarder Kaden Baum to suggest that might deter anyone thinking of causing trouble.

Fourteen-year-old Jesus Ortega says he likes the new park’s features, including a bowl that the previous facility didn’t have.

Ortega says he put new wheels on his skateboard for the grand opening.

Other skateboarders praised a new feature called the snake run.
