Notes: Tournament host Tiger Woods, the 2009 and 2012 winner at Congressional, is returning to play. Woods last played on March 9 at Doral, where he competed with pain in his lower back and closed with a 78 to tie for 25th. He had back surgery March 31, causing him to miss the Masters for the first time. He also missed the U.S. Open. … The top four finishers not previously eligible for the British Open will earn spots, provided they are among the top 12 and ties. … The Greenbrier Classic is next week in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, followed by the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, and the British Open.

NW ARKANSAS CHAMPIONSHIP

Site: Rogers, Arkansas.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Pinnacle Country Club (6,389 yards, par 71).

Purse: $2 million. Winner’s share: $300,000.

Television: Golf Channel (Friday, 9-11 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 5-7 p.m.).

Last year: Inbee Park won the fifth of her six 2013 LPGA Tour titles, beating fellow South Korean player So Yeon Ryu with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.

Last week: Michelle Wie won the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst for her first major title. She finished at 2 under for a two-stroke victory over top-ranked Stacy Lewis.

Notes: Wie is in the field. She also won her home event in Hawaii in April … Lewis, a two-time winner this year, played at the University of Arkansas. She won the inaugural tournament in 2007, an unofficial victory after the event was cut to 18 holes because of rain. The then-college player shot a 65. … Park won the Manulife Financial Classic on June 8 in Canada for her first LPGA Tour victory of the year. … The tour is off next week. Play will resume July 10-13 with the Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale.

Television: Golf Channel (Thursday, 12:30-2:30 p.m.; Friday, 12:30-2:30 a.m., 12:30-2:30 p.m.; Saturday, 2-4 a.m., 3-5 p.m.; Sunday, 2:30-4:30 a.m., 3-5 p.m.; Monday, 5-7 a.m.).

Last year: Kenny Perry shot 71-63-63-64 to beat Fred Couples and Duffy Waldorf by two strokes. Perry won the U.S. Senior Open in his next Champions Tour start.

Last week: Tom Lehman won the Encompass Championship in Glenview, Illinois, making a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory.

Notes: The tournament is the third of the tour’s five major championships. Last month, Perry won the Tradition in Alabama, and Colin Montgomerie took the Senior PGA in Michigan. … Joe Daley won in 2012 at Fox Chapel. … The tour is off next week. Play will resume July 10-13 with the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Notes: Martin Kaymer is coming off a victory two weeks ago in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. He’s from Dusseldorf, about 20 miles from Jack Nicklaus-designed Gut Larchenhof. Kaymer is the lone German champion in tournament history, winning in 2008 at Munich Eichenried. … Els is skipping his title defense to play in the PGA Tour event at Congressional. … England’s Danny Willett won in 2012 at Gut Larchenhof, the site of the German Masters from 1998-2009. … The French Open is next week, followed by the Scottish Open and the British Open.
