COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Most of the members of the Vermont Army National Guard are returning home from a month of specialized training in Louisiana.

The Vermont-based unit known formally as the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) spent most of June at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk where the soldiers trained to fight against a mock opposing force.

They will be returning to Vermont on Friday and Saturday.

Vermont Guard spokesman Major Chris Gookin said it was the first time since the brigade was sent to Afghanistan in 2010 that the entire unit trained together.
