SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities say a Texas man has died at an annual counterculture gathering in forest outside Salt Lake City.

Wasatch County sheriff’s Deputy Chief Jared Rigby tells the Salt Lake Tribune that 68-year-old Timothy Gillespie of Cushing, Texas, was found dead in his tent Sunday at the Rainbow Family gathering.

The sheriff’s office doesn’t suspect foul play, but an autopsy will be conducted.

Rigby says Gillespie’s friends saw him go to bed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and went to check on him about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when he didn’t re-emerge. They found him dead.

His follows another death at the annual gathering focused on peace. Rigby says 39-year-old Susan M. Wilkinson, of Keene, New Hampshire, was found dead June 15 after sleeping outside.

About 10,000 people are expected by Friday, the height of the celebration.
