NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a Queens man has been charged with murder in the strangulation of his 8-year-old son.

District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Monday that the defendant, Boujeke (boo-JEE’-kee) Kenmoe of Fresh Meadows, has been hospitalized. Information on his attorney was not immediately available.

Police and medical personnel responding to a 911 call at around 10:10 p.m. Sunday found the child, Jerry Kenmoe, dead on a bed with marks on his neck. They say his father was sitting on the floor with cuts on his wrist.

A preliminary report from the medical examiner says the child’s injuries were consistent with strangulation.

The DA says the defendant told EMS and police that he had choked his son and then tried to take his own life.
