BEND, Ore. (AP) - A bank security guard came to the aid of a police officer who was knocked down in a fight with a transient in Bend.

KTVZ reports (http://bit.ly/1pI1tcL) the transient had been blocking traffic Wednesday afternoon near a downtown intersection and fought with Officer Wes Murphy when he arrived.

When Bank of America guard James Cornforth saw what was happening, he helped Murphy take the transient into custody.

The officer was treated at a hospital for an eye injury. The 47-year-old transient was jailed on assault and other charges.
