OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A former Edmond police officer accused of stealing cash from an evidence locker has been acquitted of grand larceny.

The jury deliberated for about 30 minutes Wednesday before finding Benjamin Northcutt not guilty of the crime. Northcutt was fired in 2011 after authorities accused him of stealing $8,000 from the evidence locker at the Edmond police station in 2010.

Northcutt’s attorney, Scott Adams, says his client is innocent and there was never any evidence linking him to the theft. Adams tells The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1l8meee ) that his client will likely seek reinstatement with the Edmond Police Department.

Prosecutors relied heavily on surveillance video footage that showed Northcutt looking around a hallway and walking between rooms - but the video never showed Northcutt taking any money.
