GREENBRIER, Ala. (AP) - Thousands of Athens Utilities customers are without power in part of southeast Limestone County after a storm crossed the area.

A spokeswoman for the utility, Amy Golden, tells the Decatur Daily (https://bit.ly/1p0hcUu ) about 5,000 customers are without service Thursday evening because of several utility poles that toppled during the storm Thursday.

Golden says the downed lines cut power to a local substation and the utility is seeing scattered outages elsewhere.

Morgan County Emergency Management Agency Director Eddie Hicks says there are reports of downed power lines, trees and power outages throughout Morgan County as well.

Most of northern Alabama is under a severe thunderstorm watch expected to expire later Thursday night.
