CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen says she is “absolutely” prepared to defend President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law as she campaigns for re-election.
Shaheen, a first-term Democrat and former governor, filed her campaign paperwork with the state on Monday. Republicans hoping to challenge her want to repeal the health care law, but Shaheen says they have nothing to replace it with. She said she has spent her career working to make sure New Hampshire residents have access to quality, affordable health care, and that the health law is doing that. She acknowledged there are problems with the law, but said she is working to fix them.
The Republican field includes former U.S. Sens. Scott Brown and Bob Smith, former state Sen. Jim Rubens and conservative activist Karen Testerman.
