AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Madison Parker scored 18 points and Canyon made eight consecutive free throws in the final 59 seconds to beat McKinney North 49-42 to win the Class 4A state championship.

Canyon was 11 of 21 from the line before making 11 consecutive free throws over the final 3 minutes. Canyon won its eighth championship since 2000.

Caitlyn Cunyus added 12 points and a big defensive rebound in the final seconds as Parker made four free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the victory.

Canyon (34-4) is 16-0 at the state tournament since 2000. Canyon’s last defeat at the state tournament came in the 1999 championship game.

Mikaehla Connor scored 13 to lead McKinney North (29-5) which was playing in its first state tournament.

For Canyon coach Joe Lombard it was career championship No. 16 and his 10th at Canyon. Just before his victory, Lombard’s son Tate coached Wall to the Class 2A championship. The coaches and teams posed together for a photograph holding their trophies and medals as fans for both schools chanted “Lombard Nation!”
