BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - William Lee made three free throws with 5.4 seconds left in overtime to lift Dallas County to a come-from-behind 51-48 victory over J.O. Johnson Saturday in the Class 4A boys state championship game.
Lee had 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots for Dallas County (29-3), which won its first state title. The tournament MVP was 9-of-13 shooting and also forced overtime with a late 3-pointer.
Jerrod Moorer scored 13 points and Dallas County overcame a 29-18 deficit in the fourth quarter.
Lionel Love led J.O. Johnson (25-6) with 18 points. John Petty added 12 points.
It was the first season at J.O. Johnson for coach Jack Doss, who led Butler and Hayes to a combined seven state titles.
Lee and Moorer made the all-tournament team for Dallas County, along with J.O. Johnson’s Petty and Love. Wilcox Central’s Freddie Smith and Madison County’s Sean Edwards also earned the honors.
