NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Junior Andrew Fleming had 26 points to lead Ensworth past Memphis University School 57-46 Saturday for a record-tying fourth straight Tennessee Division II Class AA boys state championship.
Ensworth joined Brentwood Academy (2003-06) as the only team to win four consecutive TSSAA boys basketball state crowns in any division. The Tigers have also won four football titles in a row and beat MUS in December’s final, with all eight championships coming under coach Ricky Bowers.
D’Andre Ferby chipped in 14 points for Ensworth (19-11).
Chris Galvin’s 16 points led the Owls (17-14), who overcame a 6-0 start to force six lead changes.
Fleming, named DII-AA Mr. Basketball and tourney MVP, scored 12 third-quarter points including all the Tigers’ points during a 10-2 run to go up 33-25. He made 16 of 22 free throws and sank nine straight, but scored all but one field goal in the third period.
