ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - State authorities have been asked to investigate a scuffle between two Chester County volunteer firefighters and sheriff’s officials at an accident scene.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported (http://bit.ly/1lrcI7d) reported the state Attorney General’s Office has asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate the confrontation Feb. 14. The two firefighters were later charged with assault.

Volunteer fire chiefs say they want the state to determine whether Sheriff Alex Underwood and deputies interfered with firefighters at the scene. They’ve hired a former federal prosecutor to represent them.

Arrest warrants allege Tommy Martin pushed Underwood and scuffled with a police captain. Police claim Tommy Martin’s brother, Andy Martin, assaulted a deputy who was trying to remove him from the scene.
