AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Sophomore guard Calveion Landrum scored 23 points as top-ranked Waco La Vega rallied from a 25-24 halftime deficit Saturday to claim its first girls state basketball title by beating Argyle 47-42 in the UIL Class 3A finals.

Landrum had a stunning pass in the paint to Erin DeGrate with 42 seconds remaining to give the Pirates (35-0) a six-point lead. Argyle added a layup with 32 seconds left but La Vega hit late free throws to seal the win.

DeGrate finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds while teammate Faith Dimerson added eight points and four steals.

Delaney Sain and Vivian Gray led Argyle with 14 points each. Gray scored six of her points in the first quarter when an 8-0 Argyle run gave the Eagles (36-2) their biggest lead of the game at 12-6.
