FRANKLIN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say five people were injured when an alleged drunken driver traveling on the wrong side of a northern New Jersey roadway crashed into another vehicle.

Franklin police tell The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/1irLVDh) that 33-year-old Ryan Fitzpatrick of Butler tried to drive away after Saturday night’s crash on Rutherford Avenue, near Route 23. But his vehicle soon collided with a guardrail and hit an embankment.

Besides the drunken driving charge, Fitzpatrick also faces five counts each of assault by auto and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident which resulted in bodily injury. He was not hurt in the crash.

The injured included a passenger in Fitzpatrick’s vehicle; the driver of the other car and three passengers in her vehicle. They were all treated at a hospital.
