CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Fire Department officials say a 3-year-old child was killed when fire swept through an apartment building located in the city’s Roger’s Park neighborhood.

Fire department spokesman Larry Langford says the child, who wasn’t identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Wednesday fire. Langford said the child’s body was found in the bedroom of a fourth-floor apartment.

Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner Mark Nielsen says two adults were taken to a nearby hospital in fair condition. The extent of their injuries weren’t immediately available.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known, but fire officials say they believe it was accidental.

Nielsen said there were no working fire detectors in the apartment, adding most of the fire damage was found in the bedroom where the child’s body was found.
