AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine physicians, nurses, social workers and public safety officials are gathering in Augusta for a day-long conference on suicide prevention.

The Maine Suicide Prevention Program’s annual conference is Friday at the Augusta Civic Center.

The event will include discussions on a range of issues including suicide and suicide prevention among older adults and the impact of suicide on survivors. It will also focus on a new suicide awareness and prevention training law for school workers that goes into effect over the next two years in Maine schools.

Maine’s Center for Disease Control and the Department of Health and Human Services run the Maine Suicide Prevention Program in collaboration with other state departments.
