RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Curtis Stephens scored 28 points as Dan River used a 24-6 run in the second quarter to beat Bruton 84-58 in the 2A boys basketball state championship game on Saturday.

The win was the first 2A boy’s title for the Wildcats and it completed a perfect 25-0 season.

Stephens made 13 of 14 from the free throw line for Dan River. Ethan Driskill had 16 points, while Terrell Edmunds had 14 and Tremaine Edmunds 11.

Rebounding was another place the Wildcats dominated, 56-38, including 40-25 on the defensive glass.

The Panthers (26-2) were ahead after the first quarter, but went cold from the field in the second, going 1 for 12. Bruton was 6 of 26 from the field in the first half.

Marcus Carter scored 20 points to lead Bruton, while Lonnie Swinton had 19 points, with five 3-pointers.
