HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Sydney Layrock scored 26 points as Paragould jumped to an early lead and held on for a 56-48 win over Huntsville in the girls Class 5A championship game.

The title is the first since 1994 for the Lady Rams (23-5), who had lost in the championship game in each of the last two seasons.

Layrock was 8-of-15 shooting and 9 of 10 at the free throw line as Paragould led by as many as 13 points in the second quarter before the Lady Eagles (20-8) cut the lead to 35-33 after three quarters.

The Lady Rams responded by outscoring Huntsville, which was seeking its third title under 79-year-old coach Charles Berry, 21-15 in the final quarter.

Vanessa Burgess led the Lady Eagles with 27 points, while Brittanie Gragg had 12.
