PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence is set to mark St. Patrick’s Day with its annual celebration at city hall.

The office of Mayor Angel Taveras says the event scheduled for Monday will feature performances by the pipes and drums squad of the Providence Police Department and dancers from the Goulding School of Irish Dance.

Providence College President Rev. Brian Shanley is scheduled to give the keynote remarks.

The annual celebration is intended to honor the heritage of the thousands of Irish immigrants who made Providence home and the continuing influence of Irish-Americans in the state.

It will take place at noon on city hall’s second floor.
