CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Noted stem cell researcher Ann Kiessling will give the commencement address at Oregon State University’s graduation ceremony in June.

The Baker City native earned a doctorate in biochemistry and biophysics from Oregon State in 1971.

She joined the faculty of Harvard University in 1985, specializing in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology. In the early 1990s, she pioneered reproductive options for couples living with the HIV disease and hepatitis C

Kiessling is also a leader in the therapeutic use of stem cells, writing the first textbook on the subject in 2003.

She’s now the director of Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation, a private research institution in Massachusetts.
