NEW YORK (AP) - An Irish arts and cultural center in New York City plans to build a new state-of-the-arts facility next year.

The Irish Arts Center announced Monday that its current West 51st Street location will be expanded to include a 199-seat theater and technology that will allow programming to be projected outside its four walls.

The new center also will have a music venue and cafe, a dance studio and rehearsal space, classrooms, space for visual arts and a community garden.

The center said in a press release that construction on the new building was expected to begin early next year. It’s slated to open in 2016.

The center was founded in 1972.
