ATOKA, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a man was killed after he was struck by a freight train while lying on railroad tracks in Atoka County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the incident occurred Wednesday night. According to a preliminary report, 58-year-old James Littleton of Tushka was killed in the collision with the Union Pacific train.

The highway patrol says the train was traveling south with 70 cars and four engines. The report says investigators don't yet know why Littleton was lying across the tracks at the time of the collision.
