VERNON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont town of Vernon held a 10-hour Town Meeting over three nights. But it needs more time.

The selectboard is planning a special Town Meeting in April to reconsider the town’s fiscal year 2015 budget.

A lot was covered during the three-day meeting this month, with the impact of the pending closing of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant at the top of the list. Yankee accounts for about half of the town’s municipal tax base.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) the selectboard had cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from the proposed budget, including slashing police department funds. A petition with 213 signatures, far more than the minimum 83 needed, was later submitted calling for reconsideration of the budget.
