PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Tom Kovar saw the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery through a $1.4 billion expansion.

The base oil plant was first talked about in 2009, but Kovar announced its official beginning in 2011. And it is set to start up this spring.

It includes both new construction and adaptations of existing structures within the refinery, and it will help make Chevron a leader in the growing global market of lubricants, even though it is still a relatively small part of the Pascagoula refinery, Chevron’s largest in North America.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1heuT9u ) Kovar has been general manager for four years.

He is retiring at the age of 58, after 36 years with Chevron, working in all aspects of the oil industry, even oil exploration.
