BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say a Bedford man has been arrested in a hit-and-run accident that killed a bicyclist.

Sgt. Rob Carpentieri says Michael Wayne Jenkins was arrested Monday at his home on a felony hit-and-run charge.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1dIvMWY) reports Jenkins was held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Police said Sean M. McQuaid of Cape Canaveral, Fla., was riding a bike on southbound Virginia 122 when he was struck Friday night.

Later Friday, firefighters were called to Jenkins‘ home after he reported a fire. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says Jenkins tried to interfere as firefighters were putting out the truck fire.

Jenkins was arrested on a charge of public intoxication, felony assault on a firefighter and maliciously throwing missiles at an occupied vehicle. He was later released.
