NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A portion of Freret Street in Uptown New Orleans will be closed to vehicular traffic Friday afternoon for a parade honoring retiring Tulane University president Scott Cowen.

Nola.comThe Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/1jA2AcC ) the parade is scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m.

Cowen has been Tulane’s president since 1998 and will step down on June 30.

His successor is Michael Fitts, now dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
