YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - The director of the Yankton Convention and Visitors Bureau says the loss of the Colonial Inn Motel to fire will impact the city’s accommodations for visitors.

Lisa Scheve tells the Yankton Press and Dakotan (http://bit.ly/1lzd6kc ) that even though the motel had only 20 units, the city has a limited number of rooms that are already full during the peak season. She says that means 20 fewer people or families can stay in the community.

It took some 55 firefighters about seven hours to battle the Tuesday morning blaze, which destroyed the center of the motel and caused heavy smoke damage throughout.

Yankton Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says the cause of the fire is being investigated.

The Yankton Fire Department was helped by crews from Lesterville and Gayville.
