LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky has hired Barry Rohrssen as assistant coach, filling a vacancy left after Orlando Antigua became South Florida’s head coach.

Rohrssen spent last season as a Pitt assistant, helping the Panthers reach their second consecutive NCAA tournament in his second stint with the program. The 19-year college veteran previously worked under Ben Howland and then Jamie Dixon from 1999-2006 at Pitt before coaching five years at Manhattan College.

He also worked at UNLV, with the NBA Portland Trailblazers’ NBDL Idaho affiliate and coached internationally.

In a release on Thursday Kentucky coach John Calipari recalled his long association with Rohrssen, saying, “I’m thrilled with what he brings to our staff, both on and off the court, in terms of coaching, recruiting and mentoring these young men.”
