EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a woman is recovering after being attacked inside her Hudson Valley home by her husband, who later committed suicide.

Police tell The Poughkeepsie Journal (http://pojonews.co/1pStnnb ) that the woman was sleeping in the couple’s home in the Dutchess County town of East Fishkill when she was attacked by 48-year-old Daniel Schulte around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the woman suffered cuts and blunt force trauma but managed to fight him off and flee to a neighbor’s house. Police say Schulte committed suicide, but they aren’t releasing details.

Police say the couple was divorcing but continued to share their home with their two children, ages 9 and 11. Officials say the children were sleeping in another part of the home and weren’t injured.

The wife was treated at a Poughkeepsie hospital for non-life-threatening injuries
