GARYVILLE, La. (AP) - Two plantations within 20 miles along the Mississippi River’s east bank say that since another in the area has canceled its longtime arts and crafts festival, they’re scheduling festivals of their own for the October weekend that it had been using.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1mNRen1 ) that vendors will have to choose between Poché Plantation in Convent and San Francisco Plantation in Garyville, but shoppers can go to both.

Oak Alley held a spring and fall festival, each bringing more than 170 vendors and more than 10,000 visitors.

Joyce Guy, who has sold her ironwork planters and wall decorations at Oak Alley for at least 17 years, says she’ll be at Poche Plantation for the fourth weekend in October.

Tom Gates says his bungee-trampoline activity will be at San Francisco.
