MISSOURI VALLEY, Iowa (AP) - The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a family fishing day to provide basic instruction and opportunities to fish.

All ages are welcome to participate in Saturday’s event at the refuge’s South Gate Recreation Area. Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants should bring their own equipment, but bait will be provided by the refuge.

The event coincides with Nebraska Free Fishing Day, in which any Nebraska resident can fish at DeSoto without a license. Fishing license requirements for Iowa residents age 16 years and older still apply.
