CHICAGO (AP) - A spokeswoman for an Arizona red light camera company says in a statement issued after a former Chicago official was charged with bribery that it “fully cooperated” with an investigation.

Federal authorities on Wednesday arrested 52-year-old John Bills. He is accused of accepting cash, an Arizona condominium and other gifts to steer $124 million in city contracts to Phoenix-based Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. His attorney says Bills never took bribes and that Redflex was trying to make him a “scapegoat” while it faces legal troubles.

However Redflex says in a statement that it is “pleased” that its internal investigation “contributed to the governor’s legal action.”

The company also says it has drawn “a line between our past and today’s Redflex.”

The company isn’t accused of wrongdoing in the case.
