An South Carolina teenager faces manslaughter charges after she fatally shot her friend who wanted to test a bulletproof vest, police said.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Blake Wardell bled to death after receiving a single gunshot wound to the chest on Wednesday, Fox Carolina reported.

Police said Mr. Wardell and about eight to 10 friends were hanging out at a home on Broadmouth Church Road when they decided to try on a bulletproof vest and have someone shoot them.

That’s when 18-year-old Taylor Ann Kelly allegedly shot Mr. Wardell, missing the vest and hitting him in the chest.

Miss Kelly has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $10,000, Fox reported.

Police said there was no evidence of heavy alcohol or drug use involved, but an investigation is ongoing.
