JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Time is running out for some businesses to comply with a new state law requiring cross-connection control devices to prevent backflow and contaminants from entering the Jennings water system.

City Waterworks Director Ira Bertrand tells the American Press (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) four businesses are out of compliance.

The city has to show the state health department that businesses are in compliance, or in the process of having a backflow prevention device installed.

Mayor Terry Duhon said at least three of the businesses have indicated they are having the equipment installed but are waiting on plumbers to finish the job. Bertrand says a fourth business has not responded to repeated notifications from the city.

Bertrand says water service will be turned off to businesses that fail to meet the new backflow restrictions.
