JONESBOROR, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State University’s attempt at a softball championship ended Saturday when the Red Wolves dropped games to Illinois and the Air Force Academy in the second round of the National Club Softball Association World Series.

A-State’s two victories in the second round were back-to-back against Penn State, 7-2, and Eastern Illinois, 8-2.

Red Wolf head coach Chris Powers says the team got in the loser bracket in the first round and couldn’t overcome it. Powers says he’s proud of the team for fighting and not giving up.

The Red Wolves completed the season with an overall record of 38-11 and a Mid-South America Conference championship with a perfect 12-0 mark.
