KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - The state has suspended the director and the head of nursing at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital while it investigates reports of patient neglect.

The Michigan Department of Community Health says it’s acting on three complaints about patient treatment. Department spokeswoman Angela Minicuci (mih-nih-KOO’-chee) tells the Kalamazoo Gazette (http://bit.ly/1j31MX2 ) that Director James J. Coleman and Nursing Director Sandra Boothby are on paid leave.

The facility is one of three state hospitals in Michigan that provide adult inpatient psychiatric services. It has an average of 160 patients.

Minicuci declines to release details of the complaints.
