AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A sterling silver tea and coffee set that belonged to Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson and a Saudi Arabian sword once presented to former Texas football coach Darrell Royal are scheduled to be up for auction this weekend in Austin.

Auction officials say the tea set was presented to Mathewson in 1917 and is one of the few surviving baseball memorabilia in the family. Much of the family’s collection was destroyed in a 1950 house explosion and fire that killed the son of the New York Giants pitching great in San Antonio.

Royal received the ceremonial sword in the early 1990s by Nassir Al-Rashid, a prominent University of Texas donor and adviser to the Saudi royal family.

The auction is being handled by Austin Auction Gallery on Saturday.
