HINESBURG, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont school track team has escaped safely from a burning school bus.

The coach of Bristol’s Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School track team tells The Burlington Free Press newspaper (http://bfpne.ws/1k61ST8 ) Wednesday afternoon’s fire burned the bus, the team’s gear and the students’ belongings.

The team was en route to a meet in Winooski, about 30 miles north of the school. The fire started while the bus was traveling in Hinesburg, about halfway there.

Coach Chris Nezin says the students escaped from the back of the bus and walked about 200 yards away to safety. No injuries have been reported.

Emergency crews say a second bus arrived to take the students from the scene. The cause of the fire hasn’t been disclosed.
