SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police are investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old city woman.
Police responding to the city’s ShotSpotter automated gunfire detection system found the victim, identified as Lenezzia Clarke, suffering from several gunshot wounds on Union Street just before midnight Monday.
Sgt. John Delaney says she was taken to Baystate Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead early Tuesday.
Police interviewed several people in the neighborhood but no one was able to give a detailed description of the shooter.
The shooting remains under investigation and there was no word on motive or arrests.
The death is the city’s third homicide of the year.
