On Wednesday, actor LeVar Burton launched an online fundraising campaign to raise $1 million to bring back the children's television show he once hosted, Reading Rainbow.
And, just 11 hours later, the fundraising campaign reached its goal.
To show his gratitude, Mr. Burton filmed this video, tearfully thanking his supporters and contributors for breathing new life into the beloved children's television show that encourages reading and imagination.
"I am overwhelmed. Thank you so much. This is going to enable us to really, really do a lot of good. I am so proud that this community has come together to support this effort and it's a people's thing. It's the $5, it's the $10, it's the $25, it's the $1 pledges and it's unbelievable. Or actually, it's very believable. Thank you so much. We are literally changing the world, one children's book at a time," Mr. Burton said through tears.
Mr. Burton, launched the campaign through crowdfunding site Kickstarter Wednesday morning with the goal of raising enough money to revitalize the show for the next generation. Mr. Burton and his team plan to launch a new version of Reading Rainbow for the Web and to provide Reading Rainbow for free to as many as 1,500 schools.
