RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - VCU athletic director Ed McLaughlin has a new title and a contract extension.

President Michael Rao says McLaughlin’s job has been elevated to associate vice president status. The board of visitors also approved a three-year contract extension through 2019 and a raise from $210,000 to $271,000.

McLaughlin was heralded as an effective fundraiser when he was hired two years ago, and VCU has since received the largest gifts in the history of its athletic department: a $4 million corporate partnership with HDL, Inc. and a $3 million gift from Meadwestvaco Corporation.

The programs’ collective Academic Progress Rate is also the highest in school history with its 16 intercollegiate programs earning an average score of 970 this year.

VCU will break ground on a $25 million basketball practice facility in June.
