HONOLULU (AP) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii says there is no threat of a tsunami from a magnitude-6.9 earthquake that struck off the coast of Tonga and Fiji.

The quake was centered nearly 200 miles northwest of Nuku’alofa, Tonga, and 270 miles southeast of Suva, Fuji, just before 8 a.m. Sunday local time. Tonga and Fiji are about 5,000 miles southwest of the Hawaiian islands.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 258 miles below the earth’s surface.
